The Kentucky Postsecondary Education Network (KPEN) is a comprehensive
statewide postsecondary education network managed by Windstream
as the communications provider. The KPEN Network is the first
network to utilize a statewide MPLS broadband infrastructure
established by Windstream. Windstream established, manages,
operates, and maintains the high-speed, expandable telecommunications
network for postsecondary education and affiliated education,
government, and non-profit organizations in the Commonwealth
of Kentucky. The public four-year postsecondary education institutions
and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS)
currently use this network. Other non-profit organizations and
some Kentucky K-12 schools are also using the KPEN Network.
The network can serve all educational institutions across the
state and, as a strategic network infrastructure, will be opened
to industry, businesses, partnerships, consortia, and other
private enterprise in the state.
Universities participating in the network are: KCTCS, Kentucky
State University, Morehead State University, Eastern Kentucky
University, Northern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky
university, University of Louisville and the University of
Kentucky.
Private colleges and universities are also participating in
KPEN
Postsecondary education in partnership with Windstream believes
KPEN enhances the current and future telecommunications infrastructure
solutions available in Kentucky. This network provides all
participants with better network capabilities, long-term cost
savings and revenue enhancing opportunities.
